I've done it! I've finished my conceptual storyboard for the homepage of this site. Look at how beautiful it will be:
One day.
At the moment I'm only about 1/4 of the way there. I've jumped back and forth between WordPress and Blogger trying to find a template that will allow me the control I want without forcing me to hand-code the entire site. Unfortunately, it looks like a LOT of hand-coding will be required to get the exact look I want.
Yikes! I haven't coded HTML in years and years. Finding those skills in the dark corners of my brain might be more difficult than finding my 5x great grandfather's baptismal records! (Har! Genealogy humor!)
Tomorrow's goal is to storyboard the Ancestor Page. These pages will actually be the heart of the site; the blog is ancillary. But, I'd like to get into the habit of writing so I can beta-test the blog's tone. Do I want my posts to be planned and polished or stream-of-conscious? Since the ancestor pages and maps are the real heart of the site, I don't have a set plan for the posts yet. So I shall wax poetic for a few days as I plug away at the site design. Odds of this very post being deleted before site launch: VERY HIGH.
