The March of Time was a newsreel program that ran before movies from 1935 to 1951. In 1938, they produced an episode titled
U.S. Firefighters that showcased the efforts being made to not simply put out fires - but to prevent them from occurring in the first place. Because Memphis was the leading city (among cities of its size) in fire prevention, the Memphis Fire Department was featured. As Fire Chief at the time of filming,
